Happy New Year. I've got a little treat for you. Yes. I'm giving away 4 tickets to each gig on the summer tour starting January 3rd in Whitianga (excluding of course Big Day Out.)
>>If you would like to win, email me at this address with your name, which gig you'd like to go to and a reason why you should be put on the guestlist. Each date's winners will be passed along the morning of the gig so get entries in to me by 9pm the night BEFORE. Ho ho ho.<<
27 December, 2003
A few things have been updated here and there. Additions have also been made in the form of video stills, new pieces of trivia and a new wallpaper.
25 December, 2003
Happy Christmas boys and girls. Have fun!
15 December, 2003
So many new dates it's enough to make you want to move to Silverdale. Take a look and see if your town is included.
12 December, 2003
A review of Collider from NZgirl is up here, and check out their interview with Steve and Andrew... IF YOU DARE. Muahaha. Also, some news! Fur Patrol's video for Fade Away was nominated alongside fellow kiwis Pacifier for Everything, Radiohead, Madonna and Bjork for the top video at the Australian Effects and Animation Awards at the AEA Festival. Bjork took the award.
8 December, 2003
Incase you haven't already seen it, Fuel International (who made the video for Fade Away) have provided a link to a behind the scenes look at how the video was made...
3 December, 2003
Some photos and a setlist from the Cambridge gig on the 2nd, courtesy of Rick over there in merry old England.. HERE CLICK HERE WOW YES... Oh plus, there are new dates, or old dates that I never noticed before... including 2 NZ shows. Ooh. Anyway, click here.
30 November, 2003
A teensy little review of the Fade Away single just to... update with something sparkly.
25 November, 2003
A little interview from Undercover is up here. Anyone have something to say? Anyone? Anybody out there?
21 November, 2003
Thanks to Andrew there's a review of a Hopetoun Hotel gig from Drum Media up in the live reviews section, and he also passed on the news that Fade Away got Single of the Week in Beat Magazine (Melbourne) this week. More to come on that. Thanks Andrew.
12 November, 2003
If you missed the Flipside interview, or aren't from NZ of course, it's up online here for your viewing pleasure. Also, there's a little note at FurPatrol.com ESPECIALLY for YOU! Yes! YOU! Of course, you probably got to THIS site from THERE and you're thinking "Yeah... no kidding". Well... look over there! *disappears in a haze of smoke*
11 November, 2003
Updated/freshly stolen from the offical site concert dates are here. I'll update with something more interesting than just stolen tidbits sometime soon. Mmmk.
7 November, 2003
Sorry for the lack of updates lately. Well no, don't blame me, blame the band. Or yourselves! Send me stuff like reviews and photos and everyone will be happy. Anyway, New Zealand was treated to the first delightful showing of the new video for Fade Away, filmed in Sydney I do believe just before Precious. I'm sure you'll all... fall for it (boom boom!). New tour dates for both Australia (err current) and England (soon) are up and it's been confirmed for a while now that the Furs will be playing in Nelson on New Years with Fat Freddy's Drop and others at the Cusp. That'll do for now.
24 October, 2003
Wishing Club Fur a happy 4th birthday, I'd also like to introduce baby Collider into the world. If you haven't already gone and picked up your copy of this incredible album I suggest you do so PROMPTLY. In line with the new release I've updated the lyrics and the discography to include the new-comer and to correct lyrical mistakes that were glaring. Er. Still though, they're not perfect so if you have suggestions let me know. Enjoy the new album kids!
22 October, 2003
Real Groove's Julia interview is up courtesy of Fran.
21 October, 2003
Venetia has transcribed some new lyrics for us (Rocket and Art of Conversation) so check em out now and learn them before Friday to impress the guy or girl behind the counter at the record store. Ha.
21 October, 2003
Tour dates swiped directly from the official site now reside here
20 October, 2003
At the C4 launch party Julia let it be known that Collider is going to be released this Friday (the 24th). Sounds have posted a tracklisting for the album:
1. Precious
2. Get Along
3. Rocket
4. Enemy
5. Into The Sun
6. Softer Landing
7. Fade Away
8. Someone You Really Want
9. All These Things
10. Art of Conversation
11. Little Heart
So, stay tuned for more details maybe. Or just go and buy it. Or something. SOMEONE DO SOMETHING! *Goes and boils some water*
15 October, 2003
And reason #1 why you shouldn't listen to rumours... see guestbook. *Sigh* But another piece of info from NZMusic.com is that the Furs will play at The Cusp this coming New Years at Trafalger Park in Nelson. Who knows?
14 October, 2003
The interview from the latest issue of Rip It Up is now online here along with the photos that accompanied the magazine's review of the Auckland gig of the Everything tour. Rumour has it Collider is going to be released this Friday (the 17th), but no one seems to know for sure and it certainly hasn't been advertised. Anyone know? Band? Hello? Is this thing on?
4 October, 2003
The Furs will be playing the launch party for the new Kiwi music channel C4 on October 18 at the Auckland St. James. Tickets can't be purchased however, they must be WON by watching C4 and texting. 50 tickets are being given away per night, and other acts include Scribe and Goodshirt. Hurrah. So Aucklanders, pay attention. Everyone else... suck it up.
2 October, 2003
I've finally added a wonderful interview with Simon from 2001. It's here and should be especially interesting for those of you who know the first thing about drumming.
30 September, 2003
A new interview is up from Space last month. Also, a bad review from the Christchurch Press about the CSO show was heavily disputed by both readers and staff. The editor faced a barrage of letters from folk who had really enjoyed it even if they didn't know all the songs. Exerpts from the letters include... "Julia Deans was brilliant. Performing in
a new element, she shone on stage showing us how
talented she really is.
Obviously Mr Sell is not a Julia Deans fan. Those of
us who do appreciate Deans were delighted to hear her
with the brilliant CS. I suggest Mr Sell leave the symphony-pop to those who
really appreciate the CS keeping up with the musical
challenges of this century. Bravo to the orchestra and Ms Deans for daring to be
different." ...and... "I found Julia Deans' songs to be intelligent and
emotionally engaging. I applaud the orchestra for
playing more edgy work with their popular music
concerts. Perhaps next time The Press could send
someone a few generations closer to the music being
performed."
24 September, 2003
Julia's performance with the CSO went down well with fans last week. Accompanied by Steve on a couple of songs she sang some Collider tunes, some older ones and even a cover of To Sir With Love. Hopefully there'll be a review of it up sometime in the near future.
15 September, 2003
I dunno how long it'll be there, but the Precious video is online here for the moment for those of you who haven't seen it yet.
9 September, 2003
Another fabulous review of the first night in Wellington courtesy of the lovely Mystik. Cheers.
8 September, 2003
If you're not already a member of Club Fur, you might wanna think about joining up because it's starting to get all action-y and talkative in anticipation of Collider, which should now be out in October... I think. The Precious single (b-side: Counting Upside Down) has been released in NZ, and will be celebrated with two release gigs in Aussie. See the tour dates and the discography for more details on that and on Julia's performance with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra. There's a spunky little flash download available as a promo for the single at the official site. Um... I've had a bit of a tidy up around the site and added a bunch of new photos. Go forth and find them.
8 September, 2003
Er... I guess congratulations to Fur Patrol for making it to #62 on the Rock's top 100 albums list. Linky
6 September, 2003
Beautiful photos courtesy of Squire from S-E can be located following this here link. Also, the lyrics (ooooor rather an attempt at them) to the greatest Fur Patrol song ever written (aka Lil Heart.. or Little Heart.. but Lil is cuter) are up.
4 September, 2003
Photos from the St James gig have been added courtesy of Scott from Loudmouth.co.nz.
1 September, 2003
A couple of new additions. First a fan review of this past Saturday's show in Wellington. Secondly an interview with Julia, Simon and Andrew by Rebecca Barry was added here along with a lovely little photo of Julia. Enjoy.
1 September, 2003
New tour dates up from the official Grinspoon site. Lucky NSW.
31 August, 2003
Well then. We have some updates for you. First of all lets take a look at how the band celebrated the first birthday of this site...
...
Right on. To see more photos like this... just without the hat (she... er... took it off early) please check out the wonderful photos of last night's gig at the Starlight Ballroom by Fran. The lyrics to Enemy have been added, as well as the discography updated to accomodate it. Reviews still to come. Incidently... a little birdie tells me that the Precious single will be available in stores as of tomorrow with a live favourite as a b-side. Exciting eh!?
30 August, 2003
Dance pickle dance... I've had a fair few search engine results requesting the lyrics for Precious so I decided to put up my attempt.
30 August, 2003
Happy Birthday to uuuus... Happy Birthday to uuussss... Happy Biiirthday deaaaar Fur Patrol siiiite. Happy Birthday to usssss. To celebrate the first birthday of this very site, here's a dancing pickle!
from ..er... poopylickles.com.
28 August, 2003
Once again... here's the interview with Steve and Simon from Juice news. Also, some photos from Tahii of the Furs in Dunedin are up in the fans section. Don't you want to be like him and send me stuff to put up? I think secretly you do...
28 August, 2003
The word on the street is, if you listen to Channel Z you could be in to win the Furs in your own home performing for you and your friends. So if that sounds like good times all around I guess you should probably tune in. The Furs have been popping up in interviews all over the show this week, including a pretty good one on Juice TV yesterday (which I'll try to get up sometime soon). Watch Space on Friday evening (10.30pm on TV2) to see a live performance. Some new songs perhaps? Don't forget the big ALL THOSE OTHER STUPID THINGS birthday bash this coming Saturday! Wear your party sombreros!
25 August, 2003
An interview with Simon from the Southland Times is up for your reading pleasure, along with this delightful photograph
23 August, 2003
The photos from the NZ Musician magazine cover story are up here. Enjoy. Anyone who's seeing the Everything tour, write reviews and be world famous!
20 August, 2003
To celebrate the first birthday of this very website there'll be a huge party at the Starlight Ballroom on the 30th of August. Special guests coming along to help us mark this occasion will be Pacifier, Two Lane Black Top and most importantly, Fur Patrol themselves. Invitations can be swapped for ticketek tickets... or something. Anyway, enough tomfoolery... there's now a transcript of Julia's appearance on Strassman from early last year here. If you don't know who Strassman is then it might be a little frightening for you so I'll explain that he is an American ventriloquist/comic who often uses his bear puppet, Ted E. (a shy and slightly simple chap) to assist him in interviews. Have a closer look at their site. Thanks so very much to Fran for typing out all four pages of this month's issue of New Zealand Musician's Fur cover story which you can read and absorb right here. Included at the end of that article is a list of the gear used for all of you who that excites... PS The Everything tour starts tomorrow night in Invercargill.
16 August, 2003
I've put up a transcript of the short interview that Julia did with Johnno on the ROCK last weekend. Enjoy. Plus, as you've probably already heard, the Wellington gig at the Starlight Ballroom has sold out, but never fear, there will be extra Christchurch and Wellington gigs... Psst... So go get a ticket before you really do miss out.
12 August, 2003
Another addition to the reviews section from Trav of the recent Melbourne gig. Check it out... now.
12 August, 2003
Photos from the Metro show can be viewed here. Big round of applause to David for being Fur Patrol's best friend.
11 August, 2003
Another great review from David of the Sydney Metro show. Isn't he special?!
10 August, 2003
Whoooo! Publicity machine is being CRANKED with a giant... CRANK! Read this great Julia interview from the Sunday Star Times and gaze upon the splendor of the corresponding photograph. Cheers
9 August, 2003
Well for those of you who heard Julia on the Rock this evening will have heard what I was reluctant/too pussy to share. The name of the new album (out in November apparently) will indeed be "Collider". So realphabetize your collection in anticipation... Make some room.
8 August, 2003
Look! Wallpapers! Big thank you to Fran for making them. Now go and... put them up on your desktop.
4 August, 2003
A review from a first time Australian Fur-victim. Cheers David. His review can be found here
3 August, 2003
Any Australians passing through who have been to any of the recent Pacifier/Fur gigs oooor anyone who has vivid wonderful red gold and green memories of past Fur gigs, please feel free to send in reviews for the fan page. It's looking a little lonely with only 2 up. Cheers. And a gigantic correction to the horribly muddled and largely nonsensical attempt at the lyrics for Freak Show courtesy of Julia. Thank you very much and... I guess, sorry for ruining your song lyrics... Heh. Oh and one more thing... Some people have expressed... er surprise... I guess, at the graphic I created for the index page. So I'm going to set you all straight in one great big hit. NO. It's not satanic. Those pink stars are actually my whacky, yet evidently lame attempt at showing NZ pride. Yes that's right..
Those are supposed to symbolise the Southern Cross.
1 August, 2003
Umm... a couple of updates. Those Australian tour dates plus some more have gone back up here, which includes a gig in Sydney with The Superjesus. Swish. A mysterious benefactor of sorts has given the correct lyrics to Weatherman which is great. If any of you guys spot glaring mistakes in the attempts up here please feel free to correct me because mistakes are embarrassing. Speaking of embarrassing... the name of the new Fur Patrol album will be... ... ... I'm not telling! HEHE! No but seriously, it could change and then I'd feel like a dick so I'll just hold onto that piece of information until I'm told to spill goddamnit.
31 July, 2003
New host! If you've somehow managed to find this site again kudos! And a huge wet slobbery, dribbley kiss to the wonderful Chad! WHO DA MAN!? Oh... we've already covered that. Anyway, news! Precious has been released to NZ radio and the video, filmed at the Viper Room, should be out soonish. The video for Fade Away, which shall be the second single from the as yet still mysteriously titled Furry album, was filmed earlier this month in Sydney. The Pacifier tour starts this weekend so my previously unread rantings about tourdates disappearing from the website were probably best left unread. Thanks very much to Steve and Andrew for the updates. Kiss kiss!
27 July, 2003
*Sigh* I don't think Atomkinder is ever going to be back up again... Why do I keep updating it?! Heh. I'm so lame it actually physically hurts. I fall over an awful lot... you see it's the lameness. Yeah. So Precious should be out soon, with a video filmed in L.A. by some Swedish video makers who worked with the Hives. Oooh. The Furs played last week at the Viper Room in L.A. as well. No word on how that went down. Also tour dates for NZ... Invercargill has been added, and some Australian ones appear to have been deleted from the official site so I'll follow suit. One day the site will be back again... One day...
17 July, 2003
Any day now... Oh. I added a new thingee... a fan-based thingee noless. FANS!!!!!!!... anything from reviews to photos to general nutbaggery I hope to continue putting here. If you have anything like gig photographs or pictures of you with the band, or drawings you've done on cocktail napkins... or even reviews please send them to me. And... and... I'll make you FAMOUS! Think of me as Simon Cowell. NO NO... Paula Abdul. I'll be nice...
16 July, 2003
"Not another bloody layout!" they cry. AND HOW! What with atomkinder being down and all, I thought I'd take the opportunity to spruce up the place a bit. Do you like it? Will I listen if you don't? The photo was taken at Canterbury Orientation in 2001 and was provided by Paul Kean. Cheers!
7 July, 2003
New Zealand tour dates are here, tickets from Ticketek for $37. According to the site (as I'm sure you'll see if you follow the link... ) the Furs have their first single "Precious" being released to radio in mid-July. Thanks Fran. No sign of life from atomkinder yet... *Bides her time*
29 June, 2003
You know what's exciting? Well finally this site has not only made it into google searches, but it's made it in on the first page. Hazzah! More visitors just in time for a new album. Still no word on when that'll be out but the band are currently sorting out album art, photos and videos (er... cheers Steve). So in line with the new album being not too far away may I point you in the direction of the "famed" Club Fur? Efforts shall be made to make sure it doesn't go under completely, remaining a place to talk about sideburns and donkeys and cowboys... and a little band named Fur Patrol. Go and sign up a yahoo account and post away to your hearts content. Prove it's not past it's heyday. It's steeped in history. Infact all the old messages are still in the archives. Step back to a time where a pre-Pet band were gearing up for their release. Reminisce about an era when Lydia was just becoming the biggest thing since Marmite sandwiches. Revel in the delights of Andrew and Steve's whacky posts. Gasp at the controversy. Cry and giggle in delight at both sorrow and sheer madness. And so on.
25 June, 2003
According to one J. Toogood, Fur Patrol will be accompanying Pacifier and Two Lane Black Top on seven dates in New Zealand in August, so stay tuned for more details.
19 June, 2003
Tour dates for Australia are up. Stolen from the official site, which incidently is in the midst of a revamp so I guess you should stay tuned. Also the photography link for Steve on the links page has changed. New AND improved!
21 May, 2003
Message from Steve at Club Fur: Hey all, well, the album is finally mixed and mastered.
I've heard the mixes, pretty cool, and mastering shall make them even
better. If you have a mo, i have uploaded
some new photos on my site.
Check it!! CLICKY - Steve
15 May, 2003
Rumour (ooor Andrew) has it that today is the 7th birthday of the band. Seven years ago tonight (hey that's a Pearl Jam song..or..cover..or something) the fledgling Furs took to the small stage at Bodega and so the legend began. Happy Birthday to them. Go and read Andrew's offerings on NZMusic.com's forums for your updatey needs.
5 May, 2003
Happy New Zealand music month. In other news we've won the award for "Least visits to a website on the entire internet"! Runners-up include the official Kerry from True Bliss site, and the television site responsible for re-caps of Mitre10 D.I.Y. Rescue. Thanks for your support! That is all.
23 April, 2003
Stupid FTP...Hey thanks for all your comments in the guestbook about the new design..except those dirty liars who said hurtful things about my sneakers. You know who you are. The Furs made it to London but won't be playing those gigs after all. Too busy making us an album, so it should be forgiven.
8 April, 2003
After the demise of our old host intothepavement.org, and the kind offer of hosting from Atomkinder.net it seemed only fitting to relaunch with a new design. All complaints can go directly...up..my...er..guestbook. As for the BAND, well they've finished recording their new album and it's in the safe hands of Mark Wallis in London being produced and such, where the band will join him soon, play some gigs and come back with a bright new shiney album! Soon kids! SOON!
23 March, 2003
Keep an eye out for Julia in the new Telecom ad. One of many awesome kiwi artist cameos.
17 March, 2003
Update: News?
Have tracked most of the album, still a couple to go, then the finishing touches before a wee break and then a trip to London to mix at Mark's studio.
Did an all nighter last night, home by 10 am, got two down.
We are all loving the way it's coming together, hope you will too when it comes out.
Some studio photos have been taken and are on the way to being scanned and posted on furpatrol.com, which is going to be redesigned in the near future.
Cheers,
Steve
7 March, 2003
In last week's Capital Times was an article on Starfish clothing's 10th birthday. The article mentioned designers Laurie Foon and Carleen Schollum using Wellingtonians as models for the 1998 urban progression range in locations affected by the bypass. Julia modelled at the old Bar Bodega. The corresponding photograph is here. Also, it doesn't get much more old school than this. A two-year-old Julia and her father. Awww. Thanks Fran.
1 March, 2003
Through desperate pleas and emotional blackmail I attained the following information about progress in the studio: "So far we have tracked most parts for "Rocket", "Softer Landing", "Get Along" and "Into the Sun"
they all sound amazing, and Mark Wallis (producer) is a pleasure to work with." So there you have it.
3 February, 2003
According to NZMusic and Noizyland, the producer of the soon to be second album by the Furs will be Mark Wallis who has previously produced UK band Travis amongst others. Also, for those of you who haven't seen this live video of Lydia from The Basement it comes highly recommended.
30 January, 2003
The server has been down for a while so that's why there have been no updates. So..some small..news..er..Fur Patrol have signed to Universal records. An indie label..or...something. Also, there is a new interview up from Squeeze in 2001. While you're here, why not visit Knifeyard's site and have a listen to their songs. Support is fun!
11 January, 2003
Fur Patrol are scheduled to start recording the new album at SingSing (?) in mid-February! Woot. Some new (crappy) pictures up somewhere. Find them if you're interested. Also, the Fur Patrol special from Squeeze in late 2000 is up in the Articles section.
10 January, 2003
More of Mystik's Bodega photos are up for your viewing pleasure, including a relatively frightening one of Julia curtseying.
5 January, 2003
Happy New Year and stuff. I've added a thank-you section that I hope mentions everyone who's helped out directly or indirectly in the creation of this site. I'm a greaser.
Got anything newsworthy? Feel free to email me.
